The historical pattern is consistent: explosive subscriber growth almost always follows large price advances rather than preceding them — a textbook lagging indicator reflecting attention drawn by price. Its practical value therefore lies not in timing but in flagging sentiment froth, since extreme peaks in growth rate have repeatedly coincided with cycle-top zones. Note also that the social landscape itself has shifted, with Reddit's relative importance in crypto diluted by other platforms, so comparing absolute growth rates across cycles understates recent true attention levels.

Social metrics measure attention, not money. Attention typically coincides with or lags price, so extreme readings are more reliable for flagging sentiment froth than for timing entries.
