The subsidy has halved four times since 2009 (50→25→12.5→6.25→3.125 BTC), yet dollar revenue keeps setting new highs across cycles — halvings cut the BTC quantity, but the dollar figure answers mostly to price.

Miner revenue is Bitcoin's daily security budget in action: the cost of attacking the network scales with what miners collectively earn, since higher revenue attracts more hashpower and raises the attack bar. It is also the master valve of mining-industry health — revenue drives rig procurement, power contracts and expansion pace, and network hashrate tracks this curve over the long run.

Each halving instantly removes half the subsidy income. Inefficient rigs drop below their power cost and shut off; hashrate dips, difficulty adjusts down, and surviving miners' unit economics recover — a forced industry clearing every four years. Historically, the 3–12 months after halvings have coincided with price upcycles that repaired dollar revenue, but that is an empirical pattern, not a law.

The USD lens mixes in price; for true mining stress, pair this with hashprice (revenue per unit of hashrate). Daily figures are noisy from block-finding luck (daily block counts fluctuate around 144). And revenue is not profit — power costs and rig depreciation vary so widely that the same revenue level can mean comfort for one miner and insolvency for another.
