A global asset ranking places Bitcoin alongside gold, major equities, sovereign bonds and real estate on a single market-cap scale, answering how large crypto actually is within the global capital landscape.

The value here is calibrating expectations, not generating signals. Two caveats: market-cap definitions are not directly comparable — gold's is a stock valuation, equity caps embed float discounts, and real-estate methodologies vary enormously, so cross-category comparisons are order-of-magnitude only. And narratives like 'Bitcoin passes company X' carry almost no predictive power, though the framing does help explain capacity: a larger cap means the same inflow produces a smaller percentage move, which is the structural reason long-run volatility decays.

Macro correlation metrics gauge how tightly crypto tracks traditional markets. Correlation coefficients are notoriously unstable and flip with the liquidity regime, so read them on a rolling basis rather than as a single number.

Each asset class on the ranking carries its own valuation convention, and knowing them prevents false precision. Gold's figure multiplies estimated above-ground stock, on the order of two hundred thousand tonnes according to industry surveys, by the spot price, which makes it a stock valuation with wide error bars on the stock itself. Equity capitalisations come from exchange data and update continuously during market hours, then freeze overnight and at weekends while crypto keeps trading, so rank flips that happen on a Saturday are artefacts of stale comparisons. Bitcoin's own figure uses circulating supply, which overstates the economically active total by the several million coins presumed lost. Sovereign bond and real-estate totals are periodic estimates from institutional reports, refreshed quarterly at best. The honest use of the table is order-of-magnitude context, meaning what share of globally priced wealth crypto represents and how that share trends across cycles, rather than celebrating individual rank crossings.
