Croissance du Mempool

This chart is denominated in bytes per second: how much new transaction data pours into the mempool per unit of time. If mempool size is the water level, this is the flow rate through the intake pipe — sampled at minute granularity by the data source (blockchain.com) and aggregated for display. Of the three mempool charts it is the most derivative-like: size is the stock, count is the queue length, growth is the momentum of arrivals.

The network's drainage capacity is essentially fixed: one block roughly every 10 minutes, at most ~4 million weight units each — a constant throughput ceiling. The mempool's level moves with the difference between inflow and that fixed drain: inflow persistently above capacity builds backlog and lifts fees; inflow falling below it lets the queue drain. That makes this chart a leading view — inflection points show up here before they show up in mempool size.

Bursts in the inflow rate map to pulses of on-chain demand: inscription or token minting rushes (everyone broadcasting at once to win the mint), concentrated transfers during panic selloffs, exchange hot-wallet batch runs — and historically, dust-attack-style spam floods. Multi-day elevated readings signal a regime change in demand: through the 2023 inscription waves, inflow stayed high and the entire fee market shifted upward with it.

Three caveats. This chart sees only the inflow side — confirmations and evictions draining the pool don't register here, so pair it with the mempool size chart for the net picture. Byte rates are type-blind: one large transfer and a batch of inscription mints can contribute identical bytes. And sampling smooths out sub-minute bursts — for instantaneous shocks use a dedicated mempool monitor; this chart suits daily-and-above demand rhythms.
