About Options Open Interest
What is options open interest?
It is the total notional value of all outstanding (not yet closed or exercised) call and put option contracts. Rising OI means new options positions are being opened.
What is the put/call ratio?
The put/call ratio (PCR) divides put open interest (or volume) by call open interest. A high PCR can indicate bearish or hedging positioning, while a low PCR indicates bullish positioning.
What is max pain in options?
Max pain is the strike price at which the total value of options expiring worthless is maximized — the price that causes the most financial loss to option buyers at expiry.
Options open interest is the total value of outstanding call and put contracts that have not been closed or exercised. The put/call ratio (PCR) compares put OI to call OI as a sentiment gauge, while max pain is the strike price at which the most options expire worthless. This page breaks OI down by strike price and expiry date for BTC and ETH.
